The Virtual Open Gardens website has been published. You can still add photos or new gardens...
This summer, as you know, we were planning to hold an Open Gardens event centred around Mileham. Because of the pandemic, the event is postponed and instead we are asking if you might like to submit some photos of your garden for a Virtual Open Gardens website. We thought that this would be a good way to stay in touch with each other in some small way, as well as us being able to share our gardens with others. We will also use the website to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
We hope that you can take some photos of your garden, both general shots and specific plants and send them for inclusion on the Virtual Open Gardens website. Each garden has its own page on which we can include multiple photos and a description. The description could include the history of your garden, something about notable plants or features, particular challenges, and future plans. If you feel ambitious, you could also submit a video tour.
Gardens are only identified by the owners' first names and village name - no addresses are published.
Although the originally planned Open Gardens event was for gardens within walking distance of Mileham Village Hall, there is obviously no geographic constraint for a virtual equivalent, and so wherever you live, please do consider including your garden.
Uploading Files
This website is solely for members of the UNG group to upload photos and text for publication on the forthcoming UNG Virtual Open Gardens website. Once we have sufficient gardens included, the Virtual Open Gardens website will be available at www.UpperNarGardeners.uk. Each garden will have its own page, and when ready for publication, I'll get in touch to check you are happy with the content before it goes live.
For security reasons, you must be logged on to Google before you can use the form. Most members of the UNG group have an email address registered with Google, and so this is probably not an impediment for most people.
Photos should ideally be in landscape orientation (and a minimum of 1200 pixels wide). Optionally, any photos can have a descriptive caption added. The best way to let me know your preferred caption is to give a descriptive file name before uploading, such as "Cottage garden area.jpg" or "Viburnum carlesii.jpg". If you prefer, you can email me with a list of captions.
The Picture Upload form will allow you submit up to ten pictures at a time. If you want to submit more, just use the form again. Around 20 to 25 pictures per garden is ideal, but less, or more is fine.
If you can't use the form because of the Google logon, or you don't want to, you can email photos to Jeff@uppernargardeners.uk or use a file transfer service such as WeTransfer (allows large file transfer without signup).
You can continue to submit pictures during the coming weeks and any more that you send will be added to your garden's page.
If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
